Since COVID-19 hit, I’ve been focused on repurposing parts of our home to make them more useful and enjoyable. Living in DC, I don’t have acres of yard space and infinite rooms for everyone in my family to spread out very easily, so we have been very creative with our layout. Our back driveway is now a recreation area. We have a 10 foot inflatable pool, umbrellas, a water station for kids and a frequently used BBQ grill. That area is a full-time pool party/BBQ waiting to happen for the whole family.
But I craved a place for ME. JUST ME. To upgrade my “she-shed,” I revamped the balcony off of our bedroom to feel like a peaceful outdoor oasis, a way to be outside with all the privacy and comforts of home. I built a greenery wall to give me the vibes of being at a hotel in Miami hotel or a beautiful, relaxed garden brunch, either I would totally enjoy right now.
Here’s how I transformed my balcony into my favorite place in my home.
Install 12 x 12 panels of greenery
These panels easily snap together so you can tailor the size to your space. For my space, I needed three orders of the panels to fully cover the balcony rails.
I used the zip ties that came with the package to tie the panels to the banister poles. To secure the greenery to the top of the banister, you may need to tie together four zip ties to wrap around the top completely. If this sounds confusing, once you have the panels, you’ll see that it is completely self-explanatory to install. If not, hit me up and I’ll help you.
Accessorize!
With the greenery wall in place, I wanted to add a pop of color to the space, so these side tables added a nice contrast in the corners. With (fake) hydrangeas in simple vases, my look is complete!
The umbrella, chairs and outdoor rug all came from Loews over the past year.
Seriously, I love being at home so much more because of how much I enjoy this space. What have you done to upgrade your home to make it more comfortable during COVID-19?
